Diary (3 Feb. to 23 Aug. 1940; 1 Jan. 1943) in two exercise books. Various papers and documents including manuscript poem "I look forth" (1936); pen and ink illustrations for book of poetry "As I went by"; an article on "Black labour traffic" (1894), and a summons to Boote and John Bailey for contempt of court re. case of Donald Grant (1916). Letters (c.1916-1949) from about 60 correspondents, including Frank Anstey, Arthur Bayldon, Elioth Gruner, E.G. Theodore, Jack Lindsay, Michael Sawtell, Sir W.J. McKell, E.J. Ward, Judge A.W. Foster, Dame Mary Gilmore, C.E.W. Bean, R.J. Heffron, John Curtin, Clive Evatt, J.le Gay Brereton, H.V. Evatt, C.G. Fallon, J. Scullin, K.S. Prichard, Lionel Lindsay, D. Cameron, Frank Brennan, E.J. Brady, Rod Quinn, Andrew Fisher, the United Irish League and the American Federation of Labor. Letters mostly concern "The Australian Worker", with one group on the early closing campaign of 1916.

Journalist. Came form Liverpool to Australia 1891; editor of Bundaberg "Guardian", 1894; helped found the Gympie "Truth", 1896; appointed editor of the "Queensland Worker", 1902; edited the "Australian Worker", 1911-1949; trustee of A.W.U.; active in anti-conscription campaign, 1917; published several volumes of verse. (Australian Encyclopedia).
