From crew-lists of the merchant vessel "East Croft" (ship-rigged, iron sailing-vessel). The certificates, which include a license to ship and a certificate of discharge, relate to the following seamen: (i) Stephen McCue, aged 24, born in Yorkshire, last of H.M.S. "Wolverene", signed on for East Croft as AB on 15 November 1886 at Sydney, NSW but deserted at Newcastle N.S.W. on 23 November 1886. (McCue had been given no advance on the agreed L.4 per month's wages); (ii) William Douglas, aged 28, born in America, signed-on as AB at Newcastle, N.S.W. 22 November 1886 and deserted at San Francisco 20 January 1887 taking the full advance of his L.4 a month wages; (iii) W. Peters, aged 26, born in Denmark, shipped as AB on 15 November 1886 at Sydney for San Francisco, but deserted at Newcastle on 23 November 1886.
