At the beginning of the letter Grant noted that this was a copy of his original letter which was lost. Grant petitioned for a revision of the Land Regulations. His letter was published in the "Courier" on 14 March 1834 and a copy was also sent to Dr Ross. The letter referred to his journey along the East Coast of Tasmania, stopping at Port Arthur and Hobart, on the "Tamar" under the command of Capt. Moriarty on 12 February. Grant described the country around St. Helens and its suitability for sheep farming, and referred to the sighting of kangaroos and the availability of fresh water.
