MS 9193 comprises files of the secretaries, 1976-1983 relating to Council and executive meetings, National conferences, 1976-1982, and membership and other matters; files of the National Curriculum Officer, 1982-1986; files relating to the Southeast Asian publications series published by the Asian Studies Association of Australia; administrative records relating to the organisation of the 5th-9th National conferences, 1984-1992; papers presented at the New Directions in Asian Studies Conference (Singapore, 1989) and papers presented at the 20th Anniversary Conference (1996) (32 boxes).
The Acc98.278 instalment includes conference papers, executive and Council minutes, correspondence, voting papers, membership lists, and files on State branches and other organisations and submissions to government inquiries for the period 1984-1996 (15 A3 cartons).
The Acc01.011 instalment comprises further files of the Asian Studies Association of Australia, 1981-1989 (1 box).
The Acc10.201 instalment comprises additional secretariat records relating to the early administration and activities of the Association. The papers contain correspondence, minutes of meetings (including the foundation meeting, 1975), Council deliberations, publications information and discussion papers on the establishment of the Association and its constitution (2 boxes).

The Asian Studies Association of Australia was established in 1976 to promote the study of Asian languages, societies, cultures and politics in Australia; to support teaching and research in Asian studies; to encourage the exchange of information through publications, conferences and seminars; and to contribute to an understanding of Asia in the community at large.
