Letter from King Charles I to his sister Elizabeth Stuart, former Electress Palatine and Queen of Bohemia, then in exile in the Hague, the Netherlands, announcing the birth of Charles (later King Charles II), son and heir of Charles I and Henrietta Maria of France.
Letter reads: My onlie deare Sister, | There being no joy of myne that I can esteeme so, except you pertake off it, I have therefore sent James Pringle to let you know, that this day you have a Nephew borne, & to the end you may soone know it, I stay him no longer then to tell you that bothe the Monther and chylde are well, therfor I hope ye will excuse to your husband, knowing that I am to you bothe | Your loving brother to serve you | Charles R. | St James the 29 of May 1630.
