The papers in MS 9621 include a privately produced journal titled "The Buffalo buster", 1907-1908, which reflects the often humorous thoughts of a group of men who occasionally met at Mt Buffalo, Victoria. Some of the group are identified: David Bevan, Sir John Monash, Ernest Levinson, but others are identified only as Wright, Farlow, Gibson, Johnson, Bates and Peebles. Also included are two copies of a typescript of a poem (or song) dedicated "To the Buffalo". There is also "Justice Bevan's diary", a record of Bevan's trip from Darwin to Adelaide between November 1917 and January 1918, with some biographical detail, and a paper titled "Captain Cook" (1 folder).

Judge. David John Davies Bevan was born in 1873 in Melbourne and died there in 1954. Bevan attended the Melbourne Church of England Grammar School and graduated in law at the University of Melbourne in 1900. In the following year he became a barrister and solicitor. He was appointed as the first Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in April 1912, a post he retained until 1921. Bevan served as a member of the Berwick Shire Council in Victoria from 1924 to 1932.
