The papers in MS 9073 comprise correspondence, sermons, addresses, lectures, writings by Frank Engel, minutes, reports, leaflets, articles, conference papers, cuttings, notes, publications and other papers relating primarily to Engel's involvement in the New Zealand Student Christian Movement, Australian Frontier, Overseas Service Bureau, World Council of Churches, Australian Council of Churches, Action for World Development and the Christian Conference of Asia. Also, a large sequence of files relating to Aboriginal land rights and issues, and a copy of Engel's autobiography titled Rarely a dull moment (34 boxes).
The Acc03.036 instalment includes diaries and logs, 1934-2000, notebooks, lectures and addresses, letterbooks, 1946-1951, and correspondence, 1939-1994 (4 boxes, 2 cartons).
The Acc03.121 instalment consists of financial books and files relating to the World Student Christian Federation and Australian Frontier (3 boxes).
The Acc03.246 instalment comprises typescripts, correspondence and printed material (1 box).
The Acc09.164 instalment includes notebooks, addresses, diary, conference papers, reports, minutes, meditations, publications and photographs relating to the Australian Student Christian Movement (ASCM); correspondence, diaries, travel schedules, photographs and papers relating to the World Student Christian Federation; papers on appointment to the National Missionary Council and the Australian Council of Churches including letters, photographs, notebooks on World Council of Churches meetings overseas; addresses, sermons, broadcasts, material for a possible book on Christianity, sermon notebooks and lectures; publications and correspondence relating to publications; material on Aboriginal affairs and land rights; files on the Uniting Church; biographical material including memoir material, job applications, oral history transcripts, anniversaries of ASCM; and, personal correspondence and biographies of others (10 boxes).

Uniting Church minister. Reverend Dr Frank Graham Engel was general secretary of the New Zealand Student Christian Movement, 1941-1943, and a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches from 1961-1968. Engel served as a committee member of the Overseas Service Bureau, 1962-1994, and as general secretary of the Australian Council of Churches, 1969-1975. He was commissioner of Australian Frontier between 1976 and 1988 and vice-chairman from 1965-1972. Engel was the author of The land rights of Australian Aborigines: a paper prepared for the Australian Council of Churches with resolutions of its annual meeting, 1965 (1965), Australian Christians in conflict and unity (1984), 21 years of Australian Frontier: an extraordinary organisation for extraordinary times, 1962-1983 (1988), Christians in Australia: times of change 1918-1978 (1993), and Rarely a dull moment: autobiography (2000).
