In rural Western Australia in 1954, two children decide to run away to Perth and take a ship to their grandparents in England rather than be sent to an orphanage after the death of their mother. Amidst a huge police search and the intervention of the Premier, the children meet an Aboriginal man, Frank Smith, who takes them to his mother?s house. Frank decides not to turn them in for the reward and instead to guide them to Perth.
