Frank Johnston was a publisher, photographer and businessman with an interest in Australia's pastoral industry and the history of aviation.

- Folders of contact prints act as a reference index to the negatives.
- Selected images have been individually catalogued and digitised.
- Acetate negatives, colour transparencies, colour photographs and colour slides stored in cold store. Nitrate negatives stored in nitrate store. For brief summaries of acetate and nitrate negatives, see files NLA 204/11/00012-2 and NLA/10923-49.
- Collection also includes several maps, booklets and newspaper cuttings.
