- Biography/History:

Captain Charles Robert Pinney, M.C., was Administrator of Norfolk Island from 1932 to 1937. He was the son in law of Sir Hubert Murray, who was Lt. Gov. of Papua from 1908 to 1940. His brother was Professor George Gilbert Aime Murray who was Chairman of the League of Nations from 1922 to 1938. Hubert and Gilbert's father Terence Aubrey Murray (1810-1873) came to Australia from Ireland and took up land in the Canberra district. He owned Yarrowlumla, which is now Government House in Canberra, and held office in the N.S.W. Legislative Assembly. He was knighted in 1869.
