MS 9642 comprises papers relating to multiculturalism in Australia, including reprints and photocopies of articles, conference papers, government reports, parliamentary debates, and ministerial statements and pamphlets, 1949-1992; minutes, agenda papers and correspondence of the National Advisory and Co-ordinating Committee on Multicultural Education, 1984-1988; talk to the Australian Arts Council in the series, Great religious books (1955); and, ABC Nation's forum of the air: Can Asians understand the West? broadcast on 30 June, 1954 (26 boxes).
The Acc03.131 instalment comprises papers relating to ethnic affairs and multiculturalism, conferences and professional activities, Asian relations and public engagements, Australia-Sri Lanka projects, Asian studies and cognate activities and development studies, the Buddhist Society, activities prior to coming to Australia in 1971, Sydney student days, 1950-1955, and Sri Lanka, academic record, media reports, curriculum vitae and miscellaneous matters, and, correspondence relevant to public affairs, professional and academic work (8 cartons).

- Biography/History:

Social psychologist and academic. Emeritus Professor Laksiri Jayasuriya held the foundation Chair of Social Work at the University of Western Australia where he is presently Senior Honorary Research Fellow in Social Work and Social Policy. Jayasuriya was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences in 2000 and was a member of several Australian government committees. His publications include Immigration and multiculturalism in Australia (1997), The Asianisation of Australia (1999), and Welfare and electoral politics in Sri Lanka (2000). In 1985 Jayasuriya was appointed a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for service to community relations.
