1) Quarter Sessions Records re the transportation of convicts 1749, 1802-1856. Includes orders for transportation of convicts to hulks 1802-40; reports and returns of convicts 1802-56; circulars and correspondence 1802-51; and convict lists. 2) Genealogical notes and letters of the Whittell and Woolfield families of Papatoetoe, N.Z. 3) Stanley family papers including 24 letters 1846-49 to Owen Stanley concerning family matters; correspondence 1847-53 of Charles Edward Stanley; letters from T.H. Huxley relating to MacGillivray's "Narrative of the voyage of H.M.S. Rattlesnake". 4) Petition 1849 by passengers on the emigrant ship Cheapside; journals 1849-51, of John Ayre, surgeon on the emigrant ships Duchess of Northumberland and Cheapside; and other papers. Ayre's journals contain descriptions of conditions aboard emigrant ships, details of treatment of the sick, etc.
