This report presents lists of skills shortages in each State and the Northern Territory and an overview of occupational developments for occupations in shortage. At present there are skill shortages in only a relatively small number of mainly professional and trade occupations and/or for particular experience requirements. Some of the shortages are national while many are evident in some States or regions only. Skill shortages are evident in three broad occupational areas: professional occupations including mining engineers, selected computer professionals, registered nurse specialisations, health professionals, some secondary teacher specialisations; trade skills including toolmaker, boilermaker, sheetmetal worker, chef, pastrycook, hairdresser; and service occupations such as child care coordinator.
