MS 4953 comprises minutes, correspondence, records of yearly meetings, Australian Council of Churches material, lectures, historical papers, members lists, reports, submissions, press cuttings, journals, newsletters and other publications of the Religious Society of Friends in Australia. Subjects include peace, education and racism (187 boxes).
The Acc05.087 instalment includes correspondence, minutes, financial and administrative records, and files relating to peak Australian religious bodies, international organisations, regional and yearly meetings, committees, Backhouse Lectures Quaker Service Australia, Australian Friends Fellowship, Australian Friends Book Service and peace and social justice issues (14 cartons).
The Acc05.201 instalment comprises correspondence, minutes, reports and other papers relating to yearly meetings, the Peace Committee, Indigenous Concerns Committee, Committee on Legislation, Backhouse Lecture Committee, and other subjects (2 cartons).
The Acc06.102 instalment includes correspondence, 1986-1989, between Bronwen and Richard Meredith, and other members of the Society, concerning debate about homosexuality and AIDS (1 packet).
The Acc08.039 instalment comprises records of the Yearly Meeting Office of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Australia. The records include correspondence, minutes, financial and administrative records, publications and files relating to Australian religious bodies, international organisations, regional and yearly meetings, committees, Backhouse Lectures Quaker Service Australia, Australian Friends Fellowship, Australian Friends Book Service and peace and social justice issues (38 boxes).
The Acc11.136 instalment comprises records relating to the administrative activities of the Society and include, of particular interest, the records of regional and annual meetings and gatherings (minutes and reports) as well as papers and correspondence regarding specific issues of interest. It also contains some of the material used in the Biographical indexes of Quakers in Australia (29 boxes).
The Acc14.023 instalment comprises records relating to the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Australia, including Friends World Committee for Consultation and Asia West Pacific Section files (3 boxes).

The first meeting of the Society of Friends in Australia took place in Hobart in 1833. In 1902 the first Australia General Meeting was held, continuing until 1963, to be superseded the following year by the Australian Yearly Meeting. The Canberra Preparative Meeting began in 1954, attached to the Sydney Monthly Meeting. In 1964 an independent Canberra Regional Meeting was established, constituting the Canberra and Riverina Local Meetings.
