Gregory speaks of his birth in Essex, UK, and being raised by Communist parents, living on a farming commune, his decision to migrate to Australia, became a member of the Radiation Quartet with Jeannie Lewis, Mike Leyden, as a communist folk singer he studied at University of Sydney during the Vietnam War, propagated British peace and union solidarity songs such as "Don't you hear the H Bomb Thunder?", Aye you cannot sit here" & "Union miners stand together", his battle with the Communist Party over what constituted working class culture, how little understanding there is of the impact of art upon politics, his life in Melbourne singing at folk festivals, peace concerts, and clubs, returned to England as a turner & fitter, associated with Bert Lloyd and Doreen Bridges in the Workers Music Association, eventually returned to live in N.S.W., Ian Turner on John Manifold, his hatred of Bert Lloyd in the Bush Music Club, Sydney, his scholarly background in folk and labour songs.
Gregory speaks of how Australian labour has been more active in cultural movements than in most countries - the British are more into industrial songs, the relationship between the Cold War and the folk movement.
