Alastair Morrison, long time resident within China and Chinese Australian, speaks of his birth in Peking and his father George Ernest Morrison, his upbringing and education in England but returned to China in World War II, living in Peking from 1940-42 then in Chungking, Western China in 1944, shortly after the War he lives in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Peking, life under the Japanese occupation of Peking, the street life, the importance of the temples and markets, and Chinese religious and social activities, the way of life of the non-Chinese community living in Peking as well as their relations with the Chinese.

Alastair Morrison was born in Peking in 1915. He travelled extensively through Asia where he worked as an intelligence officer and colonial administrator for the British Government. In 1965 he and his German wife Hedda moved to Australia where he worked in Canberra for the Defence Dept.
