Born Dec. 13, 1890 in Christchurch, New Zealand, Mary Elizabeth Kathleen "Dulcie" Deamer was well-known as a Sydney journalist and writer who contributed to various journals and newspapers. She published two volumes of poetry, four novels and during the 30s, numerous plays. Witchcraft and murder were her favourite themes and her colourful imagination was complemented by her bohemian lifestyle in Sydney's Kings Cross where she became known as the Queen of Bohemia. A founder of the Fellowship of Australian Writers in 1929, she lived for many years on a Commonwealth literary pension until her death on Aug. 16, 1972.
