Goodrick, a cartographer, talks about his family background; childhood; schooling at Trentham State School and Daylesford Technical College; 1st jobs; diploma at Melbourne Technical College and work as a draftsman at Victorian Lands Dept. He then details the work done in the Lithographic Branch. Goodrick then discusses joining the army survey unit during WWII and he lists the equipment taken by the company to Middle East. He then describes operations in Middle East, Australia, New Guinea and Netherlands East Indies as they affected the unit and describes map compilation, drawing and reproduction. Goodrick then talks about returning to the Lands Dept after the war and joining National Mapping as a cartographic draftsman Grade 2 in 1949. He then discusses different positions held in Canberra and Melbourne; photomapping work in Melbourne and Papua New Guinea and appointment as Chief Cartographer and return to Cartographic Branch in Canberra in 1965.
Goodrick then discusses his involvement with the review of Drafting Grades; monitoring of mapping programs; involvement in redesign of topographic mapping; work on "Atlas of Australian resources", Land use series and "Social atlas of cities" and offshore mapping. He then talks about Great Barrier Reef series; Antarctic mapping; census mapping; digital mapping and tactual mapping. Goodrick then talks about his involvement with the Technical Sub-committee of National Mapping Council; International Cartographic Association and Australian Institute of Cartographers and experiences with United Nations cartography. He then talks about his activities during retirement and reviews his career in cartography.
