The Tripitaka is the Buddhist canon of scriptures. These were originally memorized and recited orally by disciples, and much later were written down in Pali. They are classified in three 'baskets' (tri-pitaka): (i) Vinaya Pitaka was the code of ethics, (ii) Sutra Pitaka was primarily accounts of the Buddha's teachings, (iii) Abhidharma Pitaka other writings. The NLA holds the complete Vinaya Pitaka and Sutra Pitaka series produced between 1931-1974. They consist of 76 (13, 63) volumes of parallel texts written in Pali and Khmer (in Khmer script). This rare Tripitaka edition is one of very few to survive the Cambodian civil war.
