- Biography/History:
-
The Australian Student Christian Movement (ASCM), formed in 1896 and until 1913 known as the Australian Student Christian Union, is one of the oldest student groups in existence in Australia. As a Christian group with an ecumenical focus working with university students, the ASCM fosters liberal and progressive religious and social views. It has been associated with the social gospel, Christian socialist and environmentalist movements and is generally part of the Christian left. The ASCM was involved in the formation of the National Union of Students, Overseas Service Bureau and the Uniting Church in Australia. The ASCM is affiliated with the World Student Christian Federation.
