MS 6531 comprises a commonplace book kept by Nettie Palmer in which she transcribed favourite pieces of poetry, extracts of prose writing, brief diary entries and personal reminisciences for the period 1907-1910, 1913-1914, 1918-1921 and 1936. Loose clippings, a drawing and manuscript notes inserted (1 folder).

Writer, literary critic and socialist. Janet Gertrude (Nettie) Palmer, wife of Vance Palmer, was well-known as a poet, biographer, critic, commentator, historian, diarist, letter writer, editor and translator. She was the daughter of John and Kitty Higgins and a niece of the politician and judge, Henry Bournes Higgins. Further biographical information at http://trove.nla.gov.au/people/573431

- Single volume containing handwritten entries on pages numbered 2-108 and following 55 pages. Tan leather binding and corners with gilt embellishment and remnant of metal clasp; patterned endpapers. Colour floral decoration painted on front cover. Inscribed "Nettie Higgins, August 18th 1906", the volume was a twenty-first birthday gift to Nettie Higgins.
