The papers include correspondence, drafts of his writings, papers of other writers, personal documents, photographs, cuttings of reviews, sketches by R.A. Simpson, reference to Collinson as a painter and to his publications and audio tapes. There are also papers relating to his later work as a counsellor and his involvement in the homosexual law reform group. Correspondents include Patrick White, Muir Holburn, Alan Seymour, Geoffrey Dutton, Rosemary Dobson, Miles Franklin, Thea Astley and Catherine Duncan. There are also letters from publishers, family and friends.

Playwright, poet and teacher. Collinson published numerous plays, poems and a novel, including Poets Dozen (1954), The moods of love (1957), Who is wheeling grandma? (1967), Hovering narcissus (1977) and a novel Cupid's crescent (1973).
