The papers of MS 6635 include personal and business correspondence, poems, notebooks, travel journals, drafts and proofs of Alan Gould's published works, applications for literary grants, talks, articles, reviews, cuttings and photographs. Correspondents include Les Murray, Philip Mead, David Brooks, Mark O'Connor and Bronwen Levy (20 boxes).
The Acc05.047 instalment comprises drafts and proofs of the novel The schoonermaster's dance, drafts of the novel The sea glass spiral, drafts of two poetry volumes Dalliance and scorn, and, A fold in the light, and drafts of newer poems, some reviews, correspondence, notebooks and model ship plans. The instalment also includes 20 floppy disks containing emails (inward and outward), other writings and a journal, genealogies, book reviews, a projected collection of essays and a draft of The sea glass spiral (3 boxes, 1 carton).
The Acc11.046 instalment comprises correspondence, typescripts and draft typescripts of published and unpublished work, notes for plot and characterisation, essay and lecture drafts and other writings. Correspondents include Les Murray, Stephen McInerney, Alan Wearne, Dame Leonie Kramer, Paul Kane, Kate Llewellyn, Geoff Page, Michael Thwaites, Nicholas Hasluck, Jordie Albiston, Jonathan Persse, Jack Hibberd, Andrew Lansdowne and various publishers, including Ginninderra Press (Indigo), Hachette (Hodder) and Harper Collins (4 boxes, 1 medium fol. packet).

Writer. Alan David Gould was born in London in 1949 and came to Australia in 1966. Since 1975 he has written novels, poetry and essays almost full-time, many of which have won awards. These include his volume of poetry Astral sea (1981), and the novel To the burning city (1991). His more recent works include The schoonermaster's dance (2000) and poetry books Tightrope walker: and other poems (2004), and The past completes me: selected poems, 1973-2003 (2005). Gould has also published a biographical piece titled Three streets in search of an author (1993).
