The papers of MS 6641 document various aspects of Professor Arndt's career, including his work for Quadrant, his academic career, during which he published numerous works, and his extensive involvement with Asian economic development. Included in the papers are correspondence, working papers, unpublished papers by other people, lecture notes, papers relating to a number of Arndt's publications, conference and seminar papers. There are also notes and papers on various bodies such as the United Nations Asian Institute for Economic Development and Planning, Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS), Economic Meetings of the Commonwealth Bank and the United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR). Correspondents include Robert Pullman, C.R. Kemp, Peter Coleman, David Clark, Anthony R. Michaelis, Sir Leslie Melville, Diana McDonald, David Armstrong, D.H. Penny and Cambridge University Press (257 boxes).
The Acc00.158 instalment comprises correspondence with economists and officials in many countries, diaries, drafts of lectures and articles, working papers, subject files and publications (61 other boxes).
The Acc02.132 instalment includes correspondence files arranged from A-Z, diaries of overseas trips, correspondence with journals and organisations, travel files and papers on leading issues (25 boxes).
The Acc02.147 instalment includes correspondence and other papers that document Arndt's career as an economist, academic and writer (13 boxes).
The Acc02.174 instalment comprises early offprints, articles including edited drafts and offprints, and other drafts and publications (5 boxes).

Heinz Wolfgang Arndt was an economist whose academic career included 29 years at the Australian National University, where he was Professor of Economics from 1963 until 1980. Arndt was the author of many publications, a member of the Governing Council of the United Nations Asian Institute for Economic Development and Planning and a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.
