The Committee was established in 1976 as a permanent committee of the Faculty of Arts at James Cook University. The aims of the committee are to encourage interest in and to promote teaching, publication and research relating to Aboriginal and Islander culture, society and environment, particularly in north Queensland. The newsletter includes news of lecture and film programmes, information on new additions to collections and library , items on courses related to Aboriginal and Islander studies, and notes on research and publications relevant to the Committee's interests.
