The largest group of papers filmed are the Dorset Quarter Sessions transportation orders, 1783-1851. Amongst the non-official material are parish records on pauper emigration to Australia; papers on the Tolpuddle Martyrs; the journal of Annie Beer on a voyage to Melbourne in 1854-55; the diary of Lieut. A.W.H. Battiscombe kept during the Maori War of 1860-61; and correspondence of Sir Frederick Weld, Governor of both Tasmania and Western Australia; and Thomas and Nathaniel Hardy of South Australia.
