- Biography/History:

Astronomer. Discoverer of the great comets of 1861 and 1881. He published extensive meteorological observations made at his private observatory at Windsor between 1863 and 1896, as well as many other astronomical publications. Member of the Philosophical (Royal) Society from 1862 and fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society from 1873.
