Typescript collection of letters (220 pp.) written mainly by James Cumine Parkinson, from Hobart between 1845 and 1893, and his mother, Mrs Ann C. Parkinson, in Ireland. The collection also includes letters written by Parkinson's wife, Christina, and their children, Annie and George. The letters convey family news, describing the progress of the children and Parkinson's employment, and also respond to the content of his mother's letters.
- Biography/History:

Parkinson attended school in Armagh, Ireland. He departed from Liverpool in 1851 as an apprentice aboard the "Dalriada". Between 1862 and 1866 he travelled to Australia, New Zealand and China. In 1866 he was introduced to Miss Christina Coates whom he later married. He settled in Hobart in 1866.
