- "One ... of the numerous contributions to the controversy between Dryden and Shadwell. As it principally consists of abuse of Dryden, it could not, of course, have been written by him. It has been generally ascribed to John Somers ... but Christie says there is neither internal probability nor evidence to support the story. Pope has said that Somers told him he had nothing to do with the poem"--Grolier. Langland to Wither. Ascribed also to Thomas Shadwell. Cf. Halkett & Laing (2nd ed.); Stonehill, Block & Stonehill.
