Helen Brown, born on a small farm near Deniliquin, N.S.W. recalls her family background; her husband being allocated a soldier settlers block in the area (520 acre irrigation block); their decision to take up allocated land on the waterfront, east of Esperance, W.A. in 1961; their farm being one of the first farms (1850 acres) to be developed in the Nerridup area east of Esperance in the early 1960s; farming practices of the 1960s & that of earlier generations; the Development Bank; salinity problems on the land; Nerridup Conservation Group; abundance of wildflowers in Western Australia; Esperance Wildflower Society; weed problems throughout the region; retiring from the land in 1985.
