Diaries, correspondence, notes, manuscripts, photographs, family papers and secondary source material, including: Early journalistic writings, 1949-56, including freelance writings on Northern Australian development and introduction of Santa Gertrudis cattle to Australia. Foreign Correspondent, "The Times", 1957-74: correspondence, cables, obituaries, articles and press folder issued to Harris for the Maralinga atomic test 1956; special reports and photographs from Vietnam, Egypt & Southeast Asia. Springbok Tour of Australia 1971: material regarding demonstrations, arrests and "Political Football", an analysis of the tour. Senior Research Fellow ANU 1973-77: diaries, correspondence, notes and reports regarding his tenure as a specialist in Aboriginal affairs. Northern Land Council 1977-78. Aboriginal Treaty Committee 1978-93: papers regarding an account of the treaty movement entitled It's Coming Yet. Material regarding Aboriginal issues 1946-93: correspondents include activists Kevin Gilbert, Bobbi Sykes, Galarrwuy Yunupingu and the poet Judith Wright.

Journalist, research fellow, writer. Studied history at Cambridge before embarking on journalism. "The Times" Foreign Correspondent in Australia 1957-1973, he reported from Vietnam, Egypt and Southeast Asia in the late 1960s/early 1970s. In 1968 he was the first foreign journalist allowed into Irian Jaya. Harris became actively involved in the Aboriginal rights movement as a researcher, member of the Aboriginal Treaty Committee & publicity officer for the Northern Land Council.
