The papers cover Blair's musical career, his work on behalf of Aboriginal children, and his speeches and statements on Aboriginal issues. The five albums contain cuttings, programs, photographs and, to a lesser extent, letters, speeches, and leaflets. Miscellaneous items include three small notebooks with notes and jottings, Australian Broadcasting Commission material, exercise books from courses attended, and a copy of his biography "Dark Man White World". The three general albums have been indexed. Albums include: * 1942-50 material, covering Blair's early musical career in Queensland and Victoria; * 1951 New York tour; * 1951 Commonwealth Jubilee tour of Australia; * 1951-71 material; * 1972-76 material, including letters of congratulation on his Order of Australia award.

Aboriginal tenor and activist, Harold Blair was born at the Cherbourg Aboriginal Mission in Queensland. Encouraged by Marjorie Lawrence he studied at the Conservatorium of Music in Melbourne, and in the United States. He taught at the Conservatorium from 1956 and was a very popular stage performer. In 1962 Blair started the Aboriginal Children's project which provided Melbourne holidays for Mission children. he made an enormous contribution to the cause of Aborigines.
