First journal: 14 Oct.-11 Nov. 1840 (22 pp.). Employed as a clerk and lodged with Mrs Burns. It also records a visit to the theatre, and letters and parcels from England. Second journal: 15 Jul.-14 Sep. 1841 (79 pp.). Describes events connected with Henry Scaife's employment as a clerk, his friendship with his fellow clerks, lodgers and shooting companions 'Rose' and 'Dalgety'. Notes the arrival of H.M.S. Erebus and Terror from Hobart Town and the Ovelle from South America. On 15 August he was transferred by his employers to Yass, NSW to take management of Newton Stewart & Co. Scaife travelled by coach to Yass, spending the first night in Campbell Town, the second night at Dayle's Inn [town not identified], and the third night at the Royal Goulburn Hotel, Goulburn. He recorded various visits by Aborigines to Yass, on one occasion trading a blanket for an opossum cloak and some squirrel skins. Third journal: 1-4 Jan. 1843 (4 pp.). A cricket match, Yass against Murrumbidgee is described. By this time Scaife is no longer working as a clerk, and his circumstances have changed.
