Includes MS letter from the Duke of Wellington to General Darling, of the Horse Guards, dated Brussels May 15,1815, and concerning Darling's application to join Wellington's army. Also includes the envelope and a manuscript copy with notes.

Entered the army as an ensign in 1793. Governor of New South Wales 1825-1831, when he returned to England and resumed his army career.
