The National Dance Critics' Forum was convened in Canberra by the National Library to coincide with the opening in April 1997 of the exhibition Dance people dance. Speakers were Jill Sykes - 'Future directions in choreography'; Valerie Lawson - 'The cult of the creative personality in dance'; Olivia Stewart - 'The influence of popular culture'; Robin Grove - 'The relevance of the classical tradition as we approach the 21st century'; Alan Brissenden - 'Making dance accessible through touring programs'; and Lee Christofis - 'Funding and the future of dance'.
