The collection includes correspondence, minutes of meetings, articles, newspaper clippings relating to the placement of Australian graduates in Indonesia to assist the country with its technical and social reconstruction. The graduates lived in Indonesia for two or three years at a time. The origins of the scheme evolved from a meeting of interested people in 1950. Initially, the National Union of Australian University Students sponsored the idea resulting in entities including Volunteer Graduate Association for Indonesia, Australian Scheme for Graduate Employment in Indonesia, Volunteer Graduate Scheme, Plan for Employment of Graduates from Australia to Work as Indonesians (PEGAWAI). Later the scheme was later administered from the Overseas Services Bureau. The papers also hold an administrative history of the organisation, and some applications from graduates.
