Kerry McInnis, conservator of works of art on paper, born 1953 in Honolulu talks about her early years; completing her education in the USA; going to Paris to complete her degree in French and Art History; joining her family who had moved to Canberra; working at the Canberra College of Advanced Education (CCAE); her admission into the Materials Conservation Program at CCAE; on completion doing an internship at the Library of Congress; also working at the Conservation Center for Art and Historical Artifacts in Philadelphia; returning to Australia working at the Australian War Memorial (AWM); deciding to set up Art and Archival, her own paper conservation business; working part time at the AWM until the business was established; purchasing land in Queanbeyan and having a purpose-built facility constructed; selling the business; working as a conservation consultant and devoting more time to her art.
McInnis speaks about her views on conservation; on changes and growth in the profession; the particular challenges faced by a private conservator; the role and value of the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM); her plans for the future.
