The collection contains published music of the songs, vocal and piano selections and vocal scores from Broadway and West End productions, music theatre and musicals, movies and television shows that were produced throughout the world from the 1920's to the present time. The items were mainly published in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. The collection includes copies of songs that were used in the original shows and were dropped from later productions. A number of Australian performers are featured on the covers of the music items.
The collection covers the Charleston era of the twenties, art-deco in the thirties, war influences in the forties, psychedelic in the seventies, through to the iconic shows of the nineties. It provides a history of musical theatre, songs, music and performers, as well as fashion and the changing times.
Peter Pinne, a television executive and producer, record producer, composer, lyricist, script writer, author and columnist, has collected "show" music over many years, resulting in this extensive collection.
