- Biography/History:
-
Balladeer, author and historian. Richard David Magoffin researched the origin of the song, Waltzing Matilda, disputing its origin: from the Scottish tune, "Craigilea", from an old Scottish ballad; or whether the words were written by Banjo Paterson to a tune by Christina Macpherson, or Marie Cowan. Oscar Mendelsohn gave credit for the song to Harry Nathan, an issue debated by both men through correspondence, newspapers and writings. Magoffin was a recipient of a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to Australian folkore in 2000.
