Photographs of the raid of the British communication station on Direction Island in the Cocos Islands by German soldiers from the ship 'Emden'. The landing party were stranded when the Emden engaged in battle with the HMAS Sydney and was subsequently sunk. The stranded German soldiers then left the island on the schooner 'Ayesha'.
