- Inscriptions: "Australian Country Centre attracts international craftsmen. Sturt Workshops at Mittagong, New South Wales, 80 miles from Sydney, are known internationally for skilled craftwork in ceramics, wood, textiles and jewellery. Outstanding overseas craftsmen have worked, taught or exhibited there. Situated in the grounds of Frensham private school, it was begun by the school's founder-principal in 1941. Now a community cultural teaching centre, the Sturt activities are financed by commissions, sales and student fees. A lot of the tuition is free. Director is Mr Les Blakebrough, well known Australian potter, who studied in Japan. Ray Norman, craftsman jeweller, at Sturt Workshops, Mittagong. Australian Information Service Photograph by A.
