Papers of Reverend Les McKay, 1951-2008 [manuscript]

MS 9856 comprises two diaries, 1964 and 1969, which were kept by Reverend Les McKay during his time with the Australian Inland Mission in Western Queensland (1 folder).

The Acc09.059 instalment includes photographs of McKay carrying out his work as a patrol padre of the Australian Inland Mission, two manuscripts of unpublished stories by McKay, one of which is based on Aboriginal legends, letters of thanks from governors-general following vice-regal visits, and messages of condolence to his widow on his death (1 box).

MS Acc19.014 comprises a diary of Reverend Andrew Leslie (Les) McKay of the Australian Inland Mission from 1971, when McKay spent part of the year as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland, alongside his regular work as the Mission's patrol padre for western Queensland. The diary reflects the breadth of the territory covered by Reverend McKay and describes visits to the towns of Longreach, Birdsville, Bundaberg, Winton and others, along with baptisms and the names of the many pastoralists and town-folk who provided accommodation for Reverend McKay during his travels (1 packet).
