- Map showing the route of Amundsen's Norwegian Antarctica Expedition as the 'Fram' explored the coastline along the Ross Sea, then landed at Balloon Bight. On Oct. 20, 1911 the main party then sledged south establishing 10 depots along the way until they reached the South Pole on 14-17 Dec. 1911 (a month before Robert F. Scott). The other sledging party lead by Prestrud and Johansen explored King Edward VII Land. The tracks are time-dated for both the inland and return journeys. Relief to a limited extent is shown by contours, spot heights and hachures.
