a| Johnson, former Administrator of Papua New Guinea, talks about his time as Assistant Administrator of Papua New Guinea from 1966-70; nature of House of Assembly in PNG and his views on Andrew Peacock and his role as Minister for Territories. He then provides background on his succession to David Hay as Administrator; visits by Gough Whitlam and talk of independence for PNG and the nature of PNG's Parliament in 1972. Johnson then discusses his changing role as High Commissioner in 1973 and relationship with Michael Somare. He then talks about his family background; growing up in Tambellup, W.A.; education at Perth Modern School and beginning a science degree at West Australian University. Johnson then describes his teaching experiences and postponement of his degree; marriage in 1940; enlistment in 1941 and war experiences. He then talks about returning to teaching after WWII and re-enrolling at University to do an arts degree with a major in history and then applying for a position as Deputy Director of Education in PNG.
