MS Acc05.052 comprises papers relating to the Australian Advisory Council on Bibliographic Services (AACOBS), Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) and the Committee on Standards for Public Libraries; Australian and overseas libraries; information costing; and, censorship on the Internet. The papers also include personal and professional correspondence, reports on Flowers' various consultancies in Australia and overseas, and articles by Flowers (8 boxes).
The Acc09/137 instalment includes the occasional address given by Flowers at his D. Litt. ceremony in 1990; a copy of the article "The universities and the national information system" (1997); press release from the University of Newcastle website titled "Sweet smell of success with Flowers revamp", September 2009; and, the speech given at the Flowers Room reopening in September 2009 (1 packet).

Librarian. Edward (Ted) Flowers became a staff member of Newcastle Technical College Library in 1948. He moved to Newcastle Region Library in 1952 as Deputy City Librarian and to Lake Macquarie Shire Library in 1956 as Shire Librarian. Flowers took up duty at the former Newcastle University College as Librarian in 1961. When the University became autonomous in 1965 he became the foundation University Librarian. Flowers retired in 1988. Whilst at the University, Flowers also worked in Southeast Asia as library consultant for Australian Government development agencies and acted as advisor on library development and library education. Throughout his professional life Flowers was a strong advocate for the development of an effective national library and information service. He was the author of several articles and other publications including, One librarian's point of view: a collection of papers, 1958-1981 (1981), and, One librarian's point of view: a second collection of papers, 1982-1988 (1989).
