Lola Nixon, born 1935 in Sydney, talks about her family background; her childhood in Coogee; as a child, competing in talent quests at the Coogee Aquarium; her parents; her schooling and appearances in school productions; learning piano; touring, at age 14, with Sorlies Travelling Tent Show as a dancer; the circumstances leading to this; describes touring on the Circus train; a typical day during a Sorlies tour and the training she received on tour; her recollections of Grace Sorlie, George Sorlie; Bobbie and Gracie Le Brun; learning comedy; auditioning for Harry Wren as a dancer for "Thanks for the Memory"; how she got her first opportunity to appear in a comedy sketch; touring New Zealand; touring at that time and explains how these tours eventually became impractical; working as a soubrette in Sydney nightclubs in 1954; the night club facilities for performers at the time and the nightly routine; some interesting people she worked with.
Nixon speculates on the demise of nightclubs in Sydney. She then discusses the growth of "Morning Melodies" and the inroads made by television; being invited to audition for the role of Nancy in "Oliver" and the implications of that series of auditions; the experience of playing the lead role of Nancy in "Oliver"; receiving an invitation to audition for "Man of La Mancha"; at the same time being invited to appear at the Doncaster Theatre Restaurant with Reg Livermore; her experiences working on the cruise liner, Fairstar; how she resumed her club career after touring with "Oliver"; her work as a Talent Quest adjudicator; the experience performing in a production of "Chicago" in the Canberra Theatre; her involvement in the Australian tour production of "Hello Dolly"; working with Jill Perryman; the role of 'Dolly Levi'; Christopher Renshaw; her involvement in "Jerry's Girls"; her life outside the theatre; her involvement with Australian Ladies Variety Association (A.L.V.A); her plans for the future; her proudest achievements.
