Harry Jago, former N.S.W. Minister for Health, discusses the calling of the 1973 election in N.S.W. and he details the events leading up to the closing of nominations and his failure to register which effectively ended his political career. He then talks about his family background; schooling and employment at Bank of New South Wales in 1929 and the studying of accountancy with Metropolitan Business College of an evening which led to qualification as a member of Commonwealth Institute of Accountants in 1937. Jago then describes his experiences during WWII with AIF; involvement in bank nationalisation and 2 years as chairman of Bank Employees' Committee in N.S.W. (1947-49). He then talks about the 1949 Federal election; 1951-55 in London as assistant accountant in Bank of N.S.W. in London and election as Mayor of Kuringai Council in 1959; election as member for Gordon in 1962 and the development of his interest in health matters.
Jago then describes his experiences as an MP and Minister for health and provides background to the health situation in N.S.W. He then gives his views on the Health Commission; hospital system and Sydney Hospital in particular and the reaction to Cabinet's decision to transfer Sydney Hospital to Westmead. He then considers his achievements during his period of office and his family's involvement in local government.
