The map features William Dampier's sea track over the period 1699-1700 through the Bismarck Archipelago, notably around New Britain and New Ireland, locating many small islands en route. The chart also depicts the coast of New Guinea and features Carteret's tracks of 1767 between New Britain and New Ireland, as well as James Cook's sea tracks of 1770 through Endeavour Strait on his first Pacific voyage after discovering Australia's eastern coast & then onward to Batavia. A decorative feature is the title done in fine calligraphy within a large oval frame in lower right.
