Henry Boote was born in Liverpool, England. In 1889 he emigrated to Australia and worked in Brisbane. He edited several Queensland newspapers, and worked for the Australian Worker from 1911. He was active in the war years in the anti-conscription movement and in 1927 he was a trustee of the N.S.W. Public Library and later elected to membership of the Mitchell Library Committee.
