- Minister of a number of federal departments from 1933 to 1940. During the Second World War held a number of senior wartime posts before becoming Governor of Bengal from 1944 to 1946. Re-elected to the House of Representatives in 1949 and was Minister of various government departments until 1960 when he received a life peerage as Baron Casey of Berwick. He became Governor-General of Australia from 1965 to 1969.

General Assembly this morning heard four more speakers-the representatives of Australia, Iraq, the Philippines and Colombia. Mr. Richard G. Casey, Foreign Minister of Australia, is seen here at the rostrum, delivering his speech. Discussing the present world situation, Mr. Casey held that there were grounds for "greater optimism" than a year ago, due mainly "to the positive steps that we have taken now in the East as well as in the West, to deal with the threat of Communist aggression." "There should now be reasonable expectation that the Communist leaders will see for themselves just how we will react in the future to what they might do."He also welcomed the U.S. proposal for the establishment of an international agency for the development of peaceful uses of atomic energy.
